Birthday number meanings, 1st to 31st

The day of the month you were born is your birthday number. It is one of the six core numbers in a numerology chart and describes one particular gift: the 4th's knack for systems, say, or the 23rd's way with words. Find your day below.

How to read your birthday number

Days 1 to 9 are read as they are. Days 10 to 31 are read twice: as the full number, whose digits add color, and as their root (add the digits until you reach 1 to 9). So the 5th, 14th and 23rd all share the 5's curiosity and still behave differently: the 14th carries a lesson in moderation, and the 23rd is the most talkative. Like the rest of numerology, birthday numbers are a tool for reflection, not a scientific profile.

  • Master birthdays: the 11th, 22nd and 29th (2 + 9 = 11) are read by many numerologists as master numbers, with more intensity and a bigger lesson.
  • Karmic debt birthdays: the 13th, 14th, 16th and 19th carry one of the four karmic debt numbers.

Frequently asked questions

What is a birthday number in numerology?

It is the day of the month you were born, from 1 to 31. Numerologists read it as one specific talent you bring with you, smaller in scope than your life path, which uses the whole date.

Do I reduce my birthday number?

You can read it both ways. The full day (say 23) keeps the flavor of its digits; the reduced number (2 + 3 = 5) gives its root. The 11th, 22nd and 29th are usually kept as master numbers: 11, 22 and 29/11.

Which birthdays are karmic debt days?

The 13th, 14th, 16th and 19th. Each carries a lesson numerologists link to that debt: patient work for 13, moderation for 14, humility for 16 and accepting help for 19.

Is a birthday number the same as a life path number?

No. The birthday number uses only the day. The life path adds day, month and year, so two people born on the 23rd can have different life paths. The numerology calculator works out both.
