How to learn tarot with a cheat sheet
A cheat sheet is a set of training wheels. Use it to get unstuck, not to replace looking at the card. A good routine:
- Look first. Before checking the table, say what you see in the card: who’s in it, what they’re doing, how it feels.
- Check the keywords and pick the one that fits your question best. You don’t need all three.
- Read it in its position. “Endings” in the past position is a door already closed; in the future position, it’s one you’re about to close.
- Learn by suit. Each suit tells one story from Ace to Ten. Wands is a project, Cups a relationship, Swords a conflict, Pentacles a piece of work or money.
For practice, draw a daily card, try a three-card reading, or see the order of the Majors in Major Arcana in order.
Frequently asked questions
Can I download this tarot cheat sheet as a PDF?
Yes. Press “Print or save as PDF” and choose Save as PDF. It prints as a compact table of all 78 cards with upright and reversed keywords, yes or no answers and astrology.
How do I use a tarot cheat sheet while reading?
Keep it next to you, but read the card’s picture first and only then check the keywords. The keywords are a starting point; the position in the spread and the cards around it change the meaning.
What do the yes/no and reversed columns mean?
Yes/no is the card’s traditional lean when it’s upright. The reversed column shows the answer when the card is upside down. A reversal usually softens or delays the upright answer, but a few cards turn the other way: the Devil and the Four of Cups both lean yes when reversed.
What do the card numbers mean?
The Major Arcana keep their traditional numbers, 0 to 21. The Minor Arcana are numbered 22 to 77 in deck order (Wands, Cups, Swords, Pentacles, each from Ace to King), which is how some apps and decks count. See tarot card numbers.
How long does it take to learn all 78 tarot cards?
Most people know the Major Arcana within a few weeks and the full deck within a few months if they read regularly. Drawing a daily card and writing one line about it is the quickest way to learn.
