Your destiny matrix year forecast is the arcana that sits on your current age on the octagon age map, and your month energies come from adding each month number to it. The eight outer points of your matrix mark the ages 0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 and 70, and the years between them are filled in by adding neighboring points.
The destiny matrix calculator shows your full age map and this year’s energy automatically.
The eight decade points on the age map
Your matrix comes from your birth date. A is the day, B the month, C the digit sum of the year and D = A + B + C. The four diagonal corners are F = A + B, G = B + C, H = C + D and I = D + A. Any total over 22 is reduced by adding its digits until it is 22 or less. If these points are new to you, how to read a destiny matrix chart explains them.
Those eight points form the outer octagon. Starting at A on the left and moving clockwise, each one marks the start of a decade:
| Point | Position | Age | Formula |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | Left | 0 (and 80) | Day of birth |
| F | Top left | 10 | A + B |
| B | Top | 20 | Month of birth |
| G | Top right | 30 | B + C |
| C | Right | 40 | Digit sum of the year |
| H | Bottom right | 50 | C + D |
| D | Bottom | 60 | A + B + C |
| I | Bottom left | 70 | D + A |
Each side of the octagon covers ten years, and the circle closes back on A at 80.
How are the years between decade points calculated?
Each side is split by repeated pairwise sums, like folding a ruler in half, then in half again.
- Midpoint (+5 years): add the two decade points.
- Quarter points (+2.5 and +7.5): add the midpoint to each decade point.
- Eighth points (+1.25, +3.75, +6.25, +8.75): add each neighboring pair once more.
Reduce every sum to 22 or less as you go. That gives eight points per side, one every 1.25 years, and 64 points from birth to 80. Work them in this order (midpoint first, eighths last), because each step needs the one before it.
Which point covers your current age?
Your year energy is the point at or just below your age in whole years. Because the points are 1.25 years apart and ages are whole numbers, two ages in each decade share a point:
| Age in the decade | Point that applies |
|---|---|
| +0 and +1 | Decade point |
| +2 | Eighth point at +1.25 |
| +3 | Quarter point at +2.5 |
| +4 | Eighth point at +3.75 |
| +5 and +6 | Midpoint |
| +7 | Eighth point at +6.25 |
| +8 | Quarter point at +7.5 |
| +9 | Eighth point at +8.75 |
Your age changes on your birthday, so a year energy runs from one birthday to the next. That’s how this site counts it. Some readers use the calendar year instead, so check which approach a reading uses before comparing.
Worked example: the forecast at age 36
Take someone born on March 15, 1990.
- A = 15
- B = 3
- C = 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19
- D = 15 + 3 + 19 = 37 → 3 + 7 = 10
- F = 15 + 3 = 18
- G = 3 + 19 = 22
- H = 19 + 10 = 29 → 11
- I = 10 + 15 = 25 → 7
The octagon reads A 15, F 18, B 3, G 22, C 19, H 11, D 10, I 7. Age 36 falls on the side from G (age 30, 22) to C (age 40, 19).
Step 1: the midpoint
G + C = 22 + 19 = 41 → 4 + 1 = 5.
Step 2: the quarter points
- 22 + 5 = 27 → 9 (age 32.5)
- 5 + 19 = 24 → 6 (age 37.5)
Step 3: the eighth points
- 22 + 9 = 31 → 4 (age 31.25)
- 9 + 5 = 14 (age 33.75)
- 5 + 6 = 11 (age 36.25)
- 6 + 19 = 25 → 7 (age 38.75)
Step 4: read off each age
| Age | Point used | Arcana |
|---|---|---|
| 30 and 31 | G | 22, the Fool |
| 32 | 31.25 | 4, the Emperor |
| 33 | 32.5 | 9, the Hermit |
| 34 | 33.75 | 14, Temperance |
| 35 and 36 | 35 | 5, the Hierophant |
| 37 | 36.25 | 11, Strength |
| 38 | 37.5 | 6, the Lovers |
| 39 | 38.75 | 7, the Chariot |
| 40 | C | 19, the Sun |
So from the 36th birthday to the 37th, this person’s year energy is 5, the Hierophant: a year for learning, teaching, mentors, traditions and finding your own set of values. At 37 it moves to 11, which is Strength in the matrix’s Marseille numbering, not Justice.
How do you find your month energies?
Add the month number to your year energy and reduce. The month numbers follow the calendar: the site’s calculator labels month 1 as January of the current calendar year and lists January to December using the year energy for your age today. Your year energy still changes on your birthday, so for the months after it, add the month numbers to your new year energy instead.
For the Hierophant year above:
| Month | Sum | Arcana |
|---|---|---|
| January | 5 + 1 | 6 Lovers |
| February | 5 + 2 | 7 Chariot |
| March | 5 + 3 | 8 Justice |
| April | 5 + 4 | 9 Hermit |
| May | 5 + 5 | 10 Wheel of Fortune |
| June | 5 + 6 | 11 Strength |
| July | 5 + 7 | 12 Hanged Man |
| August | 5 + 8 | 13 Death |
| September | 5 + 9 | 14 Temperance |
| October | 5 + 10 | 15 Devil |
| November | 5 + 11 | 16 Tower |
| December | 5 + 12 | 17 Star |
Year energies of 11 or more produce sums over 22 later in the year. With a year energy of 15, for example, November is 15 + 11 = 26 → 8. Some practitioners count month 1 from the birthday month instead of January, which shifts the whole list, so that’s another thing to check when two readings disagree.
How to read your year energy
A year energy is read like any other matrix point. Every arcana has a balanced side and a strained side, and the aim for the year is to lean toward the balanced one. A practical routine:
- Read the arcana page. Each matrix number, from arcana 1 to arcana 22, has a section on what it means as a year energy, with things to make the most of and things to watch out for.
- Compare it with your fixed points. If the year energy matches your center (E), or a number on your money channel, love line or karmic tail, readers expect that theme to feel louder than usual.
- Look at the neighbors. The point before shows what you’re coming out of, and the point after shows where things are heading. In the example, a Temperance year (34) leads into two Hierophant years and then a Strength year.
- Watch the decade points. Ages 10, 20, 30 and so on bring a major outer point into play, and bigger shifts often gather around them.
- Notice repeats. The same arcana can turn up several times across the 64 points. It reads as a lesson you come back to with more experience each time.
Year energy vs the tarot year card and personal year
The matrix year energy depends on your age. Two other yearly systems depend on the calendar year, so they often give a different number for the same 12 months.
| System | Based on | How it’s worked out |
|---|---|---|
| Matrix year energy | Your age | The age map point at or below your age |
| Tarot year card | Calendar year | Birth month + birth day + the year, digits added, reduced to 22 or less |
| Personal year number | Calendar year | Birth month + birth day + year digits, reduced to a number from 1 to 9 |
None of these is more correct than the others. They track different cycles, and that’s one of the reasons arcana calculators give different results. The calendar-year card has its own guide, the tarot year card explained, and the numerology number comes from the personal year calculator.

Frequently asked questions
What if my year energy is a hard card like the Tower or Death?
It points to a year of change. A Tower year tends to bring things that were already shaky to a head, and a Death year suits clearing out what has run its course. Readers usually advise making the change yourself, in small steps, before circumstances force it on you.
Is the destiny matrix year forecast a prediction?
No. In the matrix tradition a year energy describes a theme likely to be active, with a balanced side and a strained side. It tells you what to work with, not what will happen to you. Your choices decide which side of the energy you mostly live, which is why two people with the same year energy can have such different years.
Can I read the year forecast for a child?
Yes. The age map starts at birth, with point A covering ages 0 and 1, so a child has a year energy like anyone else. Parents tend to read it as the theme of that year of growing up, such as learning, friendships or a push for independence. Treat it as one idea among many, and let the child show you who they are.
What happens to the age map after 80?
The octagon covers birth to age 80, where the circle closes back on point A. The method doesn't set a fixed rule beyond that. Many readers start the circle again, reading age 80 as a return to A and the decade after it as a second pass through the first side of the octagon.
